おすすめ英語学習法

みなさん、こんにちは。 サイモン・プライヤーです。

I would like to tell you about some of the ways I study Japanese. Maybe this will help you to study English.

1. Translate my daily life (日常生活を通訳してみる)

One way I study is to think and translate from English into Japanese. When I am at home, I often translate basic everyday English sentences into Japanese. For example, I think about my daily routine: ‘I get up at 6.30, have breakfast, and brush my teeth’. I then say out loud: 六時半に起きて、朝ごはんを食べて、それから歯を磨きます。I say this out loud to practice my pronunciation. This helps me to practice everyday language and use Japanese when I am alone.

2. Shopping (日本語で買い物をする)

Because I live in Japan, there are many opportunities for me to use Japanese outside my house. I like to go shopping and practice speaking Japanese with store clerks and office staff.
I ask where things are, or what is this called. This gives me good practice in talking to Japanese people on a day-to-day basis, and good listening and speaking practice. I often plan a few key sentences before I go. This also works when I go to a clinic or reserve a table at a restaurant.

3. Japanese language partner (日本語の会話パートナー)

I also try to regularly meet with a language exchange partner. We meet in the Civic Centre in my town for an hour every week ? for half an hour we talk only in Japanese, and then we change to English. This helps both of us improve our skills. I think it is important to try to speak in Japanese for a long time (at least 30 minutes) ? this means my mind can switch over to thinking in Japanese.

I hope my experiences will help you to study English.

Good luck with your studies.
